Keith Church Wins Prudential Recruiter of the Year (with help from the Real Estate Simulator)

"Receiving Recruiter of the Year for Prudential is a great honor,” says Keith Church, Broker, Prudential Grand Valley Realty. Keith was presented with the award during Prudential Real Estate Network’s annual conference in Miami, March 10.

One of the elements Keith attributes to his recruiting program’s success is the use of simulation technology to generate recruit leads and evaluate their skills. “We made a conscious effort to recruit new people to the business with a focus on ‘growing our own’ as opposed to hiring existing agents,” says Keith. “The Real Estate Simulator™ has been a great way to draw people in by offering them a chance to see if a career in real estate is for them. I also feel that the simulator gives me a professional edge in a very competitive marketplace. Based on our company research we know that a high percentage of people are looking at what kind of training technology you can offer them,” he says. “They want to know what’s in it for them.”

The Real Estate Simulator™ Keith refers to was developed by Upward Motion Inc., provider of world class, state-of-the-art technologies for assessment and training using simulation technology to recreate real-life business challenges. “When I heard about the simulator, I knew it would be perfect for our program and contacted Upward Motion right away,” says Keith.

Using the simulator to “get people in the door” has been very effective and Keith says it’s an accurate way to identify someone’s sales skills. “The simulator also shows me if someone has good people skills and a strong work ethic. Often I am working with people who have little or no sales background. Even if they don’t score well in the sales skills part of the assessment, but show strong people skills and work ethic, I feel they can become successful in this business.”

According to Prudential Canada President Bernie Vogt, Keith’s contributions to the company’s recruiting and training program were outstanding over the year and deserving of this prestigious award. “We are extremely proud of Keith. You all have hot recruiting leads stored in your Real Estate Simulator database: those people that have signed up to take the Real Estate Simulator and did not complete it or even start it. These are your hot leads.

These prospects had some initial interest in Real Estate as a career option. So log into your databases, click on the send assessment info link under step two and resend the assessment to all those hot leads. Remind them of their initial interest in a Real Estate career by entering a special message in the dialogue box leading to a personal connection compelling them to complete the assessment.

1. How many agents do you currently have working on your team? What are your short and long term goals?

We currently have a team of about 450 agents and we are looking to bring on an additional 120 agents this year. Our goal is to recruit about 85 per cent new agents and fifteen per cent existing salespeople.

2. What is the key differentiator about your company that you present to candidates you are interested in recruiting?

Right from the start I present myself as a career counselor as opposed to a recruiter. At first my personal mission statement was to help my company grow as big as possible by adding large numbers of agents. But when I looked at what I was really doing, I realized that what I do changes people’s lives -- whether they sign on with us or not. As a company, Prudential Preferred has a lot to offer a new agent. We have major shares in two different markets – Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo – making it easier to generate leads. I think the Prudential name stands for a lot too. There’s the old adage that says, “it’s all about location.” Well, I tell new recruits it’s all about name recognition.
