Broker of the Month: Jack Cotton
How to get coverage in your local paper by holding a Real Estate Simulator "Party"

Last month, Jack Cotton, Broker, Cotton Real Estate, along with Ravit our Business Development Manager, came up with a great idea: a Real Estate Simulator Party. Then Jack decided to invite the press, and the idea went from great to FANTASTIC.

Jack hooked up his computer to a projector and gathered all his Realtors to go through the simulation portion together and discuss how they would respond and why. Meanwhile the press sat in on the discussion.

Jack's Realtors gained new insights into selling and greatly benefited from the open discussion. They built their skill levels and their morale and became a team.

The press loved it and wrote a great article, promoting the simulator and Jack's brokerage and recruting website. Money can't buy the kind of publicity that Jack was able to generate.

The ‘Dead Horse’ Syndrome

“When you discover you’re riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount.”

I gleaned this bit of wisdom from Harley Rouda, managing partner of Real Living, Inc., at the RISMedia Power Broker Forum at the NAR Conference, and it prompts me to ask: How many of you have a dead horse or two in your stable?

With over 400,000 agents selling less than two homes per year, it seems like a lot of brokers have more than a few dead horses in their offices.

What has happened to our industry that so many unsuccessful agents exist?

The key to answering this question lies in our attitude towards recruiting.
